Voted best hotel in the "Good for the Soul" category in 2005, the Ceilidh Place hotel in Ullapool grew out of Broomview Cottage and was started in 1970 by Robert Urquhart who was born there in 1921.  He started a small café in the boatshed but had aspirations for a place where not only postcards but life histories could be written. A place for eating, meeting, talking and singing.   It all came true.

The Oykel Bridge Hotel is situated in the lovely Strathoykel Valley just an hour from Inverness on the Bonar Bridge, Lochinver road.

The comfortable hotel is ideally located by the Upper and Lower Oykel River. It also provides the perfect holiday base being just 32 miles from the stunning west coast of Scotland and close to several championship golf courses, including Royal Dornoch and The Carnoustie at Skibo Castle.

Editorial reviews in publications such as Conde Nast Traveller, New York Times Travel and Leisure, Country Living and Best Scottish Weddings ensure a cosmopolitan following. A feature on The Albannach appears in May 2004 edition of Bon Appetit magazine.

In January 2007, the Independent named the Albannach in the top ten of its 50 Best British Hotels.
